100 Hole Cake – Grateau de cent troses

Note:  This recipe was handed down to my mom from her hairdresser, Miss Lottie.  I remember as a child going with momma to the hairdressers.  I don’t actually remember ever tasting this…that’s not to say my mom never made it…I was such a picky eater as a child.   I know I never made it…but it sure sounds good.

 1 Pkg. yellow cake mix

1 Pkg. instant lemon pudding

4 eggs

¾ cup vegetable oil

Mix the cake mix, pudding mix, eggs, water and oil with an electric mixer until well blended (do not over heat).  Be sure to use a high grade oil.

Bake 40 minutes at 350 degrees in a greased angel food pan.  Remove from oven.  Let stand 3 or 4 minutes in pan.  Remove from pan.  Punch 100 holes in cke with an ice pick.

 ICING

 2 Tbsp. melted butter

1/3 cup confectioner sugar

1/3 cup orange juice

 Mix ingredients and drizzle this over the cake with a spoon until entire mixture has been absorbed into the holes.
