Sugar Cookies

This is grandma’s recipe.  Not only is it good as cookies, but perfect for tarts or pie crust.

 2 cups flour, may need a little more

2 tsp. baking powder

2 eggs, well beaten

½ tsp. vanilla

2/3 cup shortening

1 cup sugar

½ tsp. salt

½ tsp. nutmeg

¼ cup milk

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Mix and sift flour, baking powder and salt.  Cream the shortening, add sugar slowly, and beat until fluffy.  Stir in well beaten egg.  Add vanilla and nutmeg.,  Add sifted dry ingredients alternating with the milk.  Blend well and chill.  Make small balls and using a glass first dip the glass in sugar then press the balls into flat circles.

Bake for 8-10 minutes.
